When you are given a trinomial, or a quadratic equation, it can be useful to factor the equation for the purposes of canceling and simplifying. Factoring trinomials is easiest when the leading coefficient (the coefficient on the squared term) is one. A more complex situation is factoring trinomials when the leading coefficient is not one. To factor trinomials we use methods that involve finding the factors of their coefficients.

We often use a table of values to plot and connect points when we are graphing a line. Sometimes graphing lines using an equation involves the same methods as using a table of values. There are several other methods of graphing lines, including using the point-slope method. Understanding how graphs, tables and equations all work in harmony is essential to your understanding of Algebra.

Solving quadratic equations using square roots works best under special circumstances. If your equation does not have a “b” term this technique may be a good one for you to try. Keep in mind that if this technique does not work well with your equation, there are a number of other techniques that can be used instead.
